THIS MONTH’S MEETING
Tuesday, February 3, 2015
7 PM - Navajo Room
Sun Lakes 1 Country Club
Our February 3 meeting features Don Cook, who knows everything about GPS (Global Positioning System), and will answer all our questions, too.
Have you ever been lost and wished there was an easy way to find out which way you needed to go? Ever find the perfect fishing or hunting spot and not been able to remember how to get back to it easily? How about finding yourself out hiking and not knowing which direction you should go to find your camp or car?
With a GPS you could know where you are located on the planet at all times. The GPS has worked itself into everyday lives of all of us. How does it work? How is it being used? How can I use this system? Answers to these questions will be presented at an informative visual presentation by Don Cook.
Don retired from 32 years of teaching Agricultural Education in Wisconsin in July of 2005. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls in 1970. He spent three years in Anchorage, Alaska working for Pizza Hut for two years and one year in a partnership building cabins at a ski resort south of Anchorage.
He has attended workshops on GPS and GIS since 1995. He has used the GPS and GIS system in his classroom instruction. He has taught adults how to use Global Positioning Systems for personal use through Western Wisconsin Technical College and has worked with a company called GPS to GIS, teaching teachers how to use GPS and GIS in the classroom. Don has been presenting GPS workshops to computer clubs in the valley for the past six years. Don and his wife, Candace, spend their summers in Wisconsin and winters in Mesa.
Be sure to arrive before the 7 PM start time so you'll receive a ticket for the free door prize drawing.
